Mssrs Romney and Obama: tell America more about your views of morality and immorality.

Let’s start talking morality with Governor Romney alone. We’ll get to President. Obama later.

Mr. Romney’s Immorality

It was striking to hear Romney in the first debate (to my ear copying the Reagan-like breathlessness of speech) speaking—out of avuncular concern for future generations of tax-payers—of the immorality of a politics of not paying off the national debt a bit.

By Romney’s standard, we must not throw future generations under the bus for the comfort and convenience of today’s tax-payers. But then, he professes care for today’s tax-payers, too, telling them that there will be pie in the sky—lower taxes today and lower national debt to be paid off tomorrow. A chicken in every pot, apparently.

Mr. Romney, do those future generations include the children of the very rich, who seem always to escape substantial taxation when Republicans are talking? (Reagan raised taxes, but no matter.)

Mr. Romney, what about the immorality of cutting Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Obamacare, schools, police, and fire—while so generously funding the military that the USA outspends the rest of the world combined?

Mr. Romney, what about the immorality of letting our highways, bridges, water systems, and other infrastructure waste away year-after-year without needed repairs?

Romney’s and Obama’s Immorality

Mssrs Romney and Obama: what about global warming? What about the immorality of increasing, year-by-year, the world’s greenhouse gases (now on a super accelerated course due to melting of the polar ice-caps with the anticipated release of game-changing amounts of methane? Well, maybe that is moral after all because the end of civilization as we know it will happen to THIS generation, not to future generations.

Mssrs Romney and Obama: what about the immorality of a capitalist system (augmented by so-called free-trade agreements) which throw American workers and Mexican farmers under the bus?

Mssrs Romney and Obama: what about the immorality of the USA’s foreign policy which throws the Palestinians under the bus in support of Israel’s implacable and lawless expansionism? And which throws Iranians under the bus in the interest of Israel’s implacable desire to be the military king-of-the-mountain in Israel’s ever-expanding (desired) sphere of military dominance?

Mssrs Romney and Obama: what have you to say about the immorality of the USA’s political system which throws democracy (citizen control) under the bus in the interests of serving the very rich and the big corporations—the BIGs—BIG-OIL, BIG-COAL, BIG-WAR and BIG-ARMAMENTS, BIG-PHARMA, BIG-AGRI, BIG-CHEMICALS, BIG-ISRAEL, and all the other BIGS? Will you come out against political spending by anyone other than individual USA citizens, and such spending under a meaningful annual cap?

Mssrs Romney and Obama: tell America more about your views of morality and immorality.
