| How USA Can Be Freed From Trump And Israel |

SUMMARY
Trump/Israel’s unprovoked and long-anticipated 2-28-2026 aggression against Iran offers progressives and peace-minded Democrats an unparalleled opportunity to free the USA of two evils: Trump/MAGA and the tyranny of Israel/Israeli Lobby. ESSAY Today’s New Facts The 2-28-2026 USA/Israel attack on Iran bids fair to be a disaster for the USA (and especially for Trump and the die-hard Zionists among USA politicians and deep-state) and, of course, for Israel itself. In 1990 the USA could reasonably regard itself as a super-power and Israel could reasonably regard itself as a local hegemon. But times have changed: the world of military power has changed with changes in missile technology and drone technology especially, and the emergence of the BRICS coalition has changed the world’s economic balances substantially. In addition, the USA’s preening self-regard as a “super-power” has or should have been corrected and down-graded after losing a short “war” with the Yemeni Houtis (Ansar Allah) over sea dominance of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. It appears that Israel confused its long-held dream of local hegenomy for the realistic possibility of achieving that dream; and the USA has confused its long-held dream of maintaining itself as a super-power for a realistic possibility of so maintaining itself. Both dreams—especially Israel’s—have depended on the possibility that Israel, with the USA’s massive assistance, could shatter Iran as this “team” had previously shattered Iraq, Libya, Syria, and other Western Asian countries. But both dreams failed to account for a world where military and economic circumstances have changed radically since 1990 and such dreams have become mere illusions. And, as to Iran, both dreams failed to take into account Iran’s military preparedness and on the cooperation between Iran and China and Russia. In short, the policy-making elites of both countries held fast to out-dated assessments of reality and to long-held dreams which changes in circumstances should have revealed as illusions. Opportunities for Progressives in the USA Assuming, as I do, that the unprovoked war-of-aggression by the USA and Israel against Iran begun (or resumed) on 2-28-2026 will fail spectacularly, I see two prizes delivered to progressives in the USA if they can see a way to seize them. First, of course, progressives (and Democrats generally) can seize this opportunity to rid the USA of Trump either by impeachment (there must by now be many grounds) or by 25th Amendment—as a president manifestly unable to govern. Moreover, it seems likely that, if this war fails dramatically, dissident Republicans will join Democrats to bring down much of the MAGA program in the hopes—which I hope are forlorn—of avoiding a Blue Tidal Wave in November 2026. Even more important, according at least to my druthers, progressives may seize this opportunity to color the 2-28 war as an example of Israel’s malign influence over USA politics and use the nation’s long-simmering horror over the USA’s support of Israel’s oppression in Palestine and over Israel’s 2-year+ genocidal war in Gaza as the right time to begin a “dump Israel” movement in earnest. This is a perfect moment for all USA politicians who have secretly opposed the Israeli genocide in Gaza to openly distance themselves from their long-time subservience to AIPAC and the Zionist billionaires. And if a large number of politicians (mostly Democrats, maybe a few Republicans) publicly repudiate AIPAC and Israel, retaliation by AIPAC will have become impossible due to the large number of politicians involved and also due to public disgust at USA’s subservience to Israel and at Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Conclusion and Notes on Revolt If ever there were an opportunity for USA politicians chafing under the yoke of the Israel Lobby to break free, this is surely it. Or will be when the 2-28 attack has conclusively been shown to be a disastrous example of Zionist-demanded (and USA-hubris-fueled) overreach. A personal note: I have been appalled by Zionism-in-action (to distinguish that from the Zionism-in-benign-dreams of my many gentle Zionist friends) since about 1980 when my Palestinian-American wife educated me and before any Zionists had seduced me to the sadly very common idea that being a Zionist was a necessary concomitant of being Jewish. I knew of the helplessness of American politicians who wished to be free of the Zionist “yoke” imposed by the Israel Lobby. I saw no way for them to achieve such freedom except by revolt, by abandoning Zionism together in large numbers, numbers so large that the black-mail by the Lobby could not realistically fall upon all of them simultaneously. And after Democrats lost the presidency to Trump the second time—at least in part due to Biden’s and Harris’s inability to distance themselves from Zionist policy—at the time support for a hugely unpopular genocidal war in Gaza—it seemed to me that the time was almost ripe for the revolt. So, as the Communist Manifesto says in another context, [American politicians] have nothing to lose but their chains. And if not now, then when? |
