USA’s and Israel’s Approaching Tragedies

Here’s a back-of-the-envelope thought about approaching tragedies for USA and Israel.

THE IDEA

My idea is that both Israel and the USA may be compared (especially as to Gaza and Iran) to someone driving a car at 60 MPH toward a brick wall and who, when challenged that this is self-destructive, says: “I’m not self-destructive—I’ve been driving for 50 years and never had an accident.”

DISCUSSION

     • IS THERE ACTUALLY A BRICK WALL?

Of course, my idea that there is, in fact, a “brick wall” may be only my wishful (or fearful) thinking. It is based on the idea that changing American public opinion on the Gaza genocide will prove to be part of a brick wall, as will Russia’s triumph in Ukraine, the ballooning USA national debt, the emergence of BRICS and China’s resilience after Trump’s tariffs, the USA’s and Israel’s PARIAH status, Hamas’s and AnsarAllah’s surprising strength, and what I presume to be Iran’s far greater power to resist the next attack than either the USA or Israel imagines.

     • WHY USA AND ISRAEL THINK THERE IS NO BRICK WALL

Why the USA’s and Israel’s perception or hope that there is “no brick wall”? It is the substitution of habit and ideology for thought or awareness of changing circumstances.

The USA has been “on a roll” in war fighting since Vietnam (or Korea?), and sees nothing wrong with continuing—not because of long-term “success” exactly but—because of never having been “punished” by an obvious and overwhelming loss. Long-term support for Israel is just a part of this. The ballooning national debt has been dismissed as an irrelevancy, so that continuing support for Israel in Gaza and Iran, and continuing and increasing annual military budgets, is merely “more of the same”, 50 years without an accident. So, from this viewpoint, no brick wall.

Israel has been “on a roll” since 1948 or 1967, making war against or otherwise oppressing Palestinians, and sometimes Lebanese and others, and sees no reason to stop, particularly when the USA has always been willing/eager/coerced/duped into supplying most of the war-fighting costs involved—and keeping Israel immune and impune as to any sort of adverse international action. 50 years without an accident. So, from this viewpoint, no brick wall.
